Why are Fire Department Personnel opening and closing Fire Hydrants on my street over the summer?

The City of Park Ridge tests every fire hydrant on the City’s Water System each year to ensure operation and the ability to adequately protect your family and property in an emergency.  This may result in slightly discolored water for short periods of time when a fire hydrant is opened on your block.  To solve this, run your water until it runs clear.  The Fire Department uses SMART911 and RAVEAlert to notify it’s residents of hydrant flushing on their block.
