Fire Department Responds to House Fire

January 23, 2024

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On Monday January 22, 2024 at 8:55 PM, the Park Ridge Fire Department (PRFD) was dispatched to the 900 block of Hansen Place for a reported house fire. The first PRFD unit arrived on scene at 8:57 PM and saw heavy fire coming out of a window on the first floor. They immediately upgraded the response to a confirmed fire which brought additional fire companies from neighboring fire departments to the scene. PRFD personnel immediately initiated a transitional attack on the fire from the exterior then made entry to the interior of the structure. The homeowner was on location and informed PRFD that there were no other people in the home. The fire response was upgraded to a box alarm at 9:22 PM to bring additional fire companies to the scene. The fire was brought under control and there were no injuries to any fire personnel or civilians.

PRFD was assisted on scene by fire companies from the Des Plaines, Elk Grove, Glenview, Morton Grove, Niles, Northfield, North Maine, Schiller Park, Skokie, and Wheeling Fire Departments. Additionally, the Park Ridge fire stations were staffed by mutual aid crews from the Elk Grove, Evanston, and Northbrook Fire Departments and the Rosemont Public Safety Department. They handled one other call for service while PRFD companies were committed at the fire.

The fire originated on the first floor in a bedroom and the cause is still undetermined at this time pending further investigation. Damage to the home is estimated to be $300,000. The resident of the home was alerted to the fire by a smoke detector and this allowed her to exit the home safely along with her dogs. We would like to remind everyone that working smoke detectors save lives and it is important to have multiple detectors in your residence and in every bedroom.
